Career breaks
At the beginning of a career break, your pension contributions will stop and your break will be classed as non-reckonable unpaid absence and will not count for pension purposes. You can pay all missed contributions, both your own and your employer's, on returning to Reckonable Service by contacting the Pensions Service Centre. Your unpaid absence will then be treated as Reckonable Service and you will be credited with the same benefits that you would have earned if you had been employed as normal during that time.
